The mission of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer, and integral to this mission it a commitment to education. The MD Anderson Cancer Network is a manifestation of such a commitment through which the institution disseminates its knowledge via partnerships within the United States and across the world. A key partner in the MD Anderson Cancer Network for nearly 15 years is MD Anderson Cancer Center España, a thriving cancer center in Madrid, Spain, with a dedicated team of outstanding physicians and other healthcare professionals who share MD Anderson's unique mission.
Building on the strong relationships between Houston and Madrid, we would like to organize an inaugural biannual pathology meeting in Madrid in October 2016. The aim of the meeting is to provide an educational venue in which current topics of relevance to practicing pathologists and other physicians, academic and non-academic, are presented and discussed. The meeting will be co-directed by Drs. Joseph Khoury (Houston) and Juan-Fernando García (Madrid). The meeting is envisioned as a mechanism to shed light on the diagnostic expertise and academic accomplishments by pathologists in Houston and Madrid, and to be a venue for exchanging ideas and knowledge between physicians in the United States and Europe.
With these goals in mind, we are submitting the preliminary program attached herein. The program is organized into 10 sessions covering the full breadth of pathology subspecialties, with one session dedicated to highlighting advances in molecular diagnostics. Subspecialties where a new World Health Organization (WHO) blue book is expected to be published on or around the meeting will be emphasized. A keynote lecture and a plenary lecture will host world-renowned leaders in the field.
We ask for your support in making this inaugural meeting a success, which we hope to repeat in two years in Houston.
