The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) is one of Europe’s leading research institutions in the cancer research field. Located in state-of-the-art facilities in Madrid, Spain, the CNIO harbours at present more than 400 researchers working in both basic and translational aspects of cancer research, in a highly dynamic, energetic and international environment. The CNIO is organized in several thematic programmes, including a Biotechnology Programme which consists of Core Units aimed to provide expert technical support and advice to CNIO Research Groups in a number of disciplines and technologies used in biomedical research, as well as to implement and develop state-of-the-art biotechnological tools and reagents for cancer research. The Histopathology Core Unit is one of these Units.
The CNIO is now seeking an experienced pathologist for its Histopathology Core Unit, which focuses on the application of histological and immunohistochemistry (IHC) technologies to cancer research and diagnosis, working on mouse models and human samples. The Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for the automation of histological and IHC techniques.
The successful candidate should hold a degree in biomedical sciences (preferably veterinary, medicine, or equivalent), with specialization in Pathology, with experience in pathology diagnosis in mouse and/or human, particularly in the cancer field. He/she should have experience in the interpretation, implementation and set up of techniques of histology, histochemistry and IHC. Previous experience in activities of support and service to users in the histology and IHC fields will be valued. English fluency and good communication skills are required.
Main duties and responsibilities of the position include the provision of scientific and technological advise and support to CNIO researchers in the application of histology and IHC technologies in their research projects, as well as in the diagnosis and interpretation of the phenotypes of murine cancer models, the implementation of techniques and procedures that can be useful for research groups, and the technical supervision of the techniques developed by the Unit, providing troubleshooting and solutions to any existing issues, and ensuring compliance with the quality standards established for the activities carried out by the Unit.
